By 1 Month of Age, Your Baby Should Be Able To:

  • Turn their head toward a hand placed near their cheek or mouth (rooting reflex).
  • Bring both hands to their mouth.
  • Turn their head toward familiar voices.
  • Suckle at the breast and touch the mother's breast with their hands during feeding.

Tips for Parents and Caregivers

  • Always support your baby's head when lifting or carrying them, as they are not yet able to hold it up independently.
  • Cuddle your baby often and show affection, even when you are tired.
  • Breastfeed on demand, both during the day and at night.
  • Talk, read, and sing to your baby as often as possible.
  • Take your baby to a primary healthcare provider during the first week after discharge from the maternity hospital.

  • Persistent, inconsolable crying.
