Nutrition After Childbirth
New mothers often worry about gaining weight. However, it is important to understand that the postpartum period is not the right time to start a restrictive diet. Both mother and baby need adequate calories and nutrients to support recovery, breastfeeding, and healthy growth and development.
Mothers are encouraged to eat small, frequent meals and choose fresh, nutrient-rich foods. A balanced diet should include plenty of vegetables, fruits, whole grains, and protein-rich foods, while foods high in added sugars and unhealthy fats should be limited.
Women are also at an increased risk of anemia after childbirth. Therefore, it is important to consume foods rich in iron and folic acid to help restore the body's nutrient stores.
Most women gradually return to their pre-pregnancy weight within approximately six months after giving birth.
