Postpartum Constipation

Postpartum Constipation

During the first few days after childbirth, many mothers may experience constipation. This is common because the body temporarily lacks three important factors that support normal bowel function: dietary fiber, adequate fluid intake, and physical activity.

In addition, pressure on the intestines during labor and weakened abdominal muscles after delivery may contribute to delayed bowel movements. Some women who have anal fissures or hemorrhoids may also feel anxious about having their first bowel movement after childbirth due to fear of pain.

A healthy, fiber-rich diet, adequate hydration, and an early return to gentle physical activity can help restore normal bowel function and relieve constipation more quickly.
